Want a more spiritual prescription? Adjust your focus!

I found the optical illusion below on a blog called youmightfindyourself.  The author explains:

If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot below, the dots will remain only one color – pink. However if you stare at the black “+” in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now,concentrate on the black “+” in the center of the picture. After a short period, all the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see only a single green dot rotating…

Try it and see…especially the last part, focusing on the cross until the pink disappears.  It is impressive!I don’t know the physics of why this happens in this particular case, but it does illustrate an interesting point…that what you see might depend on where you put your focus. This echoes physically – in a thought-provoking and fun way! – what Christian Science identifies spiritually: where you put your focus matters.  In Christian Science healing there is a recognition of the need to take the mental focus off a sick body’s (sometimes incessant!) demands for attention and steer it in the direction of an underlying spiritual wellness that is more deserving of attention.By intelligently focusing on a spiritual model of God being good and individuality being God’s reflection, many people have found – similarly to the disappearing of the pink dots – that symptoms of ill health can likewise disappear from consciousness and experience. This is not a type of visualisation technique, trying to replace a material picture of sickness with a material picture of wellness and expecting the latter to replace the former.  It is all about bringing out God’s nature in one’s experience, and brings health and character changes. So when life seems like it is getting a little dotty (pink, green, or otherwise!) it is helpful to know that a fresh perspective affords real possibilities of healing!
