The Sir Halley Stewart Trust International Lecture : "Improving the quality of spiritual care as a dimension of palliative care: learning from the US"

The Sir Halley Stewart Trust International Lecture will be given by Dr Christina Puchalski at the Cicely Saunders Institute, King's College London, on October 23rd 2012 at 4.45pm.@Glowimages MON093257.

Dr Christina Puchalski is the Director of the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health (GWish), at George Washington University. Her talk will be called 'Improving the quality of spiritual care as a dimension of palliative care: learning from the US.  She will be speaking on the US experience of "developing a consensus statement on spiritual care" - highlighting how Europe can learn from that experience. She will also address "the role of research in underpinning the consensus process".

The organisers says: "Christina Puchalski has pioneered novel and effective educational and clinical strategies to address the spiritual concerns common in patients facing illness. She has been principal or co-principal investigator in several research projects in spirituality including evaluation of a spiritual assessment tool she developed which is currently used widely in a variety of clinical settings; an NIH funded study on spirituality and will to live in HIV-AIDS patients; and an innovative study to integrate spirituality into healthcare settings called INSPIR. In a collaborative project with City of Hope and GWish, Dr. Puchalski co-led an initiative to create national spiritual care guidelines for palliative care."They also say: "The BuildCARE International Seminar Series at the Cicely Saunders Institute aims to facilitate and optimise opportunities for local, national and international networking within palliative care and rehabilitation in order to improve practice, education and policy and the integration of research and clinical endeavours."The lecture will take place in the Dinwoodie Lecture Hall on the ground floor of the Cicely Saunders Institute.
